About the origin
A source worth understanding
Nigeria is known for exceptional coloured stones. Its emerald story is less familiar—and still being written.
Colombia may dominate emerald history, while Zambia has become one of the modern gemstone industry’s most important producers. But emerald occurs in varied geological environments around the world, and Nigeria is an origin attracting increasing interest.
Nigerian material can range from pale mint and green beryl through to more saturated green and bluish-green material. That range makes careful identification particularly important.
